It’s summer and that means long nights full of fun and tough mornings with aspirin and ibuprofen. Do you know what we are talking about? Don’t lie, we all know that you have also experienced it at some point: a HANGOVER.
Technically, a hangover is made up of many symptoms that occur as a consequence of drinking too much alcohol. Typical symptoms include tiredness, weakness, thirst, headache, muscle pain, nausea, stomach pain, the regret for having called your ex… Although this can largely vary depending on the person, there are those crazy ones that are able to go play a round of tennis after a wild night (this specimen is very rare, very very rare). There are those that spend the entire next day lying on the sofa, watching Bridget Jones while eating ice cream and pizza, or those unable to leave their room, who spend the day tied to the toilet, gathering enough energy not to drown and swinging from the sink to the bed, literally.
Regardless of which type of hangover you get, today we are going to reveal the secrets to combat hangovers. Are you ready?
The only truly effective way to fight a hangover is to…
Drum roll please…
Hangovers consist of dehydration, it is the typical consequence from the kidneys eliminating the alcohol from the body. So it is important to drink lots and lots of water, especially the same night before going to bed, if you are not too drunk… The best would be to drink a whole liter, or at least half a liter. This is one of the most important and effective rules to fight hangovers and the deadly headaches as a result of it. We recommend going to bed with a bottle of water on your bedside table, and if you feel thirsty during the night… Drink, drink, drink. The worst thing that can happen is that you wake up in the middle of the night needing to go to the bathroom… But it will cure you of tomorrow’s headache!
Once you wake up it is important to recover the vitamin levels, that is why it is recommended to eat a banana or take some vitamin C. Try to avoid orange juice as this could make the probable heartburn worse. Oysters would also be extremely effective, due to their high Zinc content, although we understand that it is not something you usually have at home or something that you would like to have for breakfast. Mmm imagine some oysters dipped in coffee… ewww.
If your stomach hurts, we recommend diluting a teaspoon of coffee with baking soda in a glass of water to reduce the acidity in your stomach. Chamomile can also help you fight stomach pain. And eat rice! It clogs the stomach and will give you the slow sugars you need to survive a hangover day. So you know, eat a good risotto and everything is cured.
But please remember, always drink in moderation, you will enjoy it more and you won’t regret a thing the next day.
Cheers!
